We have observed a number of logistics firms in Thailand have been following a recent trend identified by the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) to further increase their logistics capabilities to increase their transportation market growth by 2015. The ultimate goal is to make Thailand the main logistics hub of ASEAN.  Thailand’s excellent geographical location, easy accessibility to all major ports in the region and the local logistics services infrastructure have resulted in the growth of some major ports such as Laem Chabang port, Bangkok terminal and Klong Toey.

The Dawei Deep Sea Port Project that is currently underway in Thailand will enhance the existing, current logistical benefits to extend its reach to surrounding countries around South-East Asia also. The scope of the project also includes links between ASEAN to Southern Asia, Middle East and Europe. The goal of the Dawei Project will be to create a new business gateway linking the Dawei Deep Sea Port with Laem Chabang.  Thus, whether it is cargo that has come from Europe, Africa, Middle East or  Southern Asia, it will come through Dawei to Laem Chabang which could save up to one (1) day of existing travel time which will effectively decrease the logistics cost in a client’s production chain.
